Nicole Sheffield to join IAB Board
IAB Australia has appointed Nicole Sheffield, CEO of NewsLifeMedia, to its Board. Sheffield is recognised as one of the most influential and senior women in Australian media and brings a wealth of experience to the IAB Australia Board from her many and diverse roles across all aspects of the industry.
Sheffield will replace News Corp Australia’s Neil Robinson on the IAB Australia Board. She will work with Ed Harrison, IAB Board Chairman and Yahoo7 CEO; and the other digital leaders on the Board.
Latest Microsoft results
Microsoft Corp. revenues for the quarter ended June 2015 have come in at $22.2 billion, while the company ran at an operating loss of $2.1bn over the three months. Search advertising revenue grew 21% globally (territory-by-territory figures aren’t released). Search engine Bing’s US market share now sits at 20.3% of the overall market, up 110 percentage points over the prior year. “Our approach to investing in areas where we have differentiation and opportunity is paying off with Surface, Xbox, Bing, Office 365, Azure and Dynamics CRM Online all growing by at least double-digits,” said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.
Foxtel welcomes Government research on copyright theft
Foxtel has welcomed research from the Department of Communications which has found government action helps to reduce online copyright theft.
Foxtel director of corporate affairs Bruce Meagher said: "The UK has had in place for some time site blocking legislation similar to that recently passed by the Australian Parliament. That legislation has enabled rights holders to obtain injunctions to block access to sites operated by criminals for the purpose of making money from the theft of other peoples’ intellectual property."
"The research clearly indicates that where governments take action to reduce levels of online copyright infringement it has an effect on peoples’ behaviour."
Cate Blanchett to develop and direct Aussie TV series
Cate Blanchett will develop and direct a new Australian TV series, Stateless, as part of 23 film and TV projects announced by Screen Australia.
Screen Australia has announced that the projects will receive development funding to the total of $640,000.
Stateless will focus on the true story of Cornelia Rau which made headlines in 2004, after the German/Australian woman was found at Baxter Immigration Detention Centre. Other high-end TV projects include Trust, Cargo and ET & Me.
STW launches public affairs division
STW has launched a new public affairs division aimed solely on copywriting and the production of content for government sector audiences.
The division, Ink Tank aims to assist companies and organisations to communicate effectively with the government and is headed up by STW Government Relations analyst Lauren Clark. Clark will draw on the exiting talent pool within STW in Sydney, Canberra, Perth, Melbourne and Brisbane to provide its services.
Big changes at Big Mobile
Mobile agency Big Mobile has appointed co-founder Graham Christie as its group CEO ahead of regional expansion and plans for a new office in Sydney.
It follows the departure of MD Rob Hall, who is departing to found a new business venture, with Andrew O'Shea appointed to commercial director and June Cheung as ANZ Sales Director as a result.
In addition, outgoing CEO David Green and CFO Richard Leifer are assuming executive chairman and executive director roles respectively.
BBH picks up Heinz pan-European account
Heinz has awarded creative duties for its pan-European account to BBH following a five week pitch, according to The Drum.
It is reporting that the pitch came as a result of the merger of Heinz and Kraft and saw BBH take the account from eight year incumbent Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO.
Locally, Channel T works on the Heinz account.
