The Block received a bigger boost from the absence of My Kitchen Rules (MKR) on the schedule, but I'm a Celebrity … Get me Out of Here! also managed to pick up numbers.
For the past three nights, Network Seven, Nine, and Ten's major reality formats have been going head to head in the same timeslot, but last night Seven elected to run an hour and a half of Home and Away, leaving Nine and Ten to battle for reality bragging rights.
I'm a Celebrity managed to pick up 698,000 overnight metro viewers according to the latest data from OzTAM, while The Block managed to pull in 852,000.
During the past two nights, when both shows have been up against a non-premiere episode of MKR, The Block has picked up an average of 711,000 while I'm a Celebrity has averaged out at 636,500.
That means The Block received a boost of 19.8%, while I'm a Celebrity got a 9.6% pick up.
That suggests that MKR may be cannibalising the audience of The Block more than I'm a Celebrity, but given they've only being going head to head for three days, there's a lot more to play out yet.
In the absence of MKR, news programs took the top three spots for the night with The Block coming in fourth.
The premiere of ABC's new crime drama Hiding managed to bring in 730,000, while a 7.30 interview with freed journalist Peter Greste attracted 765,000 viewers.
Seven's showing of Home and Away meanwhile brought in 828,000.
Overall, Network Seven had a narrow win over Nine, by 27.9 points to 26.4. However, on a main channel basis Nine won by 19.1 over 18.5.
Meanwhile, the ABC posted a 1.8 point win over Ten, bringing in a 20.7% share.
