My Kitchen Rules (MKR) drew in a million more viewers than the next competing reality show, if the overnight OzTAM ratings are anything to go by.
Last night was the third night Seven, Nine, and Ten's main reality formats went head to head, and if the early indications are any guide then MKR is starting to cannibalise the audience of The Block and I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!
The food reality show managed to draw in just under 1.7 million in metro markets according to the preliminary overnight OzTAM figures.
The massive audience did drop off for the premiere of Rebecca Gibney series Winter immediately following it, but even though it shed over 555,000 viewers, Winter was the second-most watched show of the night with 1.12 million tuning in.
Home and Away performed solidly as always, bringing in 968,000.
For other channels, however, the night was a little more sombre.
Nine's major reality format The Block brought in 683,000 in metro areas while I'm a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! Only managed 588,000.
However, with the celeb-fest finishing up 11 minutes late, Ten said the figure should be more like 603,000.
The celebrity format has now officially shed 167,000 from its weekday debut, and 542,000 from its debut on Sunday.
Meanwhile The Block continues to struggle against its own standards, hitting numbers well below previous versions of the show, down 27% on the same point last year by some estimates.
The dominance of MKR against the other formats meant Seven was able to romp home last night, taking a 36.3% share against Nine's 25% audience.
Meanwhile, the ABC was able to beat out Network Ten, by 16.4 points to 16.1.
Nine and Ten will get some relief this evening with Seven not showing MKR tonight, but The Block and I'm a Celebrity will still go head to head at 7.30pm.
