Derek Zoolander and Fiat have come together for a collaboration that is so hot right now. The 60-second ad debuted during the Golden Globes awards in promotion of the new film, Zoolander 2.
Zoolander, international fashion icon and alter ego of actor Ben Stiller, crashed the awards with an ad that features him driving a yellow 2016 Fiat 500X. The ad shows the male model driving past a traffic camera again and again, pulling his signature look, blue steel.
In true Zoolander fashion he is so involved in his own vanity that he doesn’t realise what he is doing is illegal, reminding us that yes, he is just a pretty face. Subsequently, he is pulled over by the police and says, ‘I know, I was driving while hot.’
The ad was directed by Paramount’s Jeff Mann, Zoolander 2's director, and signals Paramount’s objective to aggressively market its new film.
The Zoolander sequel was first promoted back in March at Paris Fashion Week and is set to be released in February of this year. A trailer for the movie also appeared earlier in the Globes broadcast on NBC.
This isn’t the first co-marketing we’ve seen from movie studios and advertisers, with Paramount and Fiat also teaming up for the release of Anchorman 2 and Paramount promoting Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
The ad will remain on air until the movie’s release and we can’t wait to see what ingenious one-liners are to come.
