Twitter-owned live streaming app Periscope is now allowing brands and users to stream footage from drones on its iPhone app.

In the next few weeks Periscope’s app will be able to connect to drone remotes allowing users to switch their streaming feed from their phone to their drone, according to Campaign UK. DJI will be the first drone company to be able to support the new functionality.

In addition, Periscope has also announced the release of a search function, allowing users to look up live streams by searching for a hashtag or topic within the global feed.

Previously users were only able to search streams from people they follow, but now users will be able to look up streams from the wide Twitter stream.

The app is also allowing users to keep videos on the service longer than the 24 hour lifespan videos have had since launch. All broadcast will be saved permanently in a user’s Periscope profile and in tweets, with users given control over having broadcast auto-delete after 24 hours or be individually deleted whenever necessary.

In a statement Periscope says: “Everyday, our community creates amazing broadcasts — whether visiting a new place, performing a song, or sparking a passionate discussion. “In the coming weeks, we’re launching broadcast search and drone support to help people form communities around the topics they care about and broadcast from new perspectives.”

The new functionality follows a recently tie up between Periscope and Go Pro allowing streams from action cameras to appear online.
