Entries closing soon for IAA 'Write Your Future' travel scholarship

The entries are closing soon for the International Advertising Association's (IAA) 'Write Your Future' travel scholarship. In conjunction with Adobe, the IAA is giving people under 30 who are working or studying advertising, marketing, media or communications, the chance to win a trip to the IAA World Congress being held in Abu Dhabi in November 2016. Candidates have until 5 February to get their entries in.

Zenith planner passes away

ZenithOptimedia UK media planner Karl Guard has died, aged 36. Last month he was listed in the top 10 media planners by Campaign Annual. The company says in its statement: "It is with great sadness that we have to announce that Karl Guard has passed away. This is a tragic loss and our thoughts are with his family at this time." Guard leaves behind his wife Natalie, who also works at ZenithOptimedia, and three children John, Albert and Agatha.

Wesfarmers unveils plan to take Bunnings to UK

Wesfarmers will spend $705 million to acquire UK hardware retailer Homebase, but won't look to roll out the Bunnings brand for another three to five years.

According to a statement on the ASX, Wesfarmers will start its acquisition of Homebase by investing in the team and core assets, noting it will develop pilots for Bunnings Warehouses in the first 12 months.

Exponential Interactive names Luke Donkin commercial director

Exponential Interactive has appointed Luke Donkin as commercial director, Australia and New Zealand. The new position sees Donkin take on overall sales strategy and oversee strategic agency, brand advertiser and trading partnerships.

He is based in Sydney and will be leaving Sizmek, the ad management company, after four years.
