Kyle and Jackie O

Kyle and Jackie O have started the year where they ended it, with Kiis leading Sydney breakfast in the first GfK ratings of the year, with a 10.7% audience share, a drop of 0.6 personage points.

However, Australian Radio Network stablemates, WSFM's Jonesy and Amanda have seen a surprising 1.5 percentage point drop in the ratings, reaching 8.4% audience share.

2GB remains miles ahead in breakfast, gaining 2.0 percentage points to hit 16.8% audience share. ABC702 also gained 1.7 percentage points, reversing the trend from the last few surveys in 2014, and surging ahead of both Kiss and WSFM to gain 11.5% audience share.

Smoothfm saw an increase in the breakfast ratings too, picking up 2.0 percentage points to reach 6.0% audience share, clipping the heels of Nova stable mate 96.6 which dropped 0.3 percentage points to reach 6.3% audience share.

Southern Cross Austereo (SCA)'s new breakfast team of Dan and Maz failed to gain traction in the first ratings of the period remaining flat on 3.0% audience share.

Some big gains were made in drive time, with 2GB's Ben Fordham picking up 2.3 percentage points, to equal long-time leader Nova 96.9 on 10.9% audience share. The team, of Kate, Tim and Marty, also picked up 0.8 percentage points over the ratings period . Meanwhile, Kiis' new national drive show, Hughsey and Kate gained 0.9 percentage points to reach 9.2% audience share.

The biggest shift in demographic came from ABC's Triple J which picked up 8.0 percentage points in the lucrative 18-24 age bracket, moving it to equal first in the demographic with Kiss on 17.9% audience share. However, Kiis saw the biggest fall in any given demographic with a 6.8 percentage point drop in the 10-17 age bracket.

Melbourne – 3AW wins across all sessions

3AW has taken the drive time crown from FoxFM in Melbourne, in a ratings period where there were no wild swings one way or the other, but Triple J got a massive boost in the age 18-24 demographic.

Talk station 3AW remained the king in all timeslots including breakfast, morning, afternoon, drive, evening and weekends, building on its dominance in people aged 55 and up to maintain the rage.

It managed to capitalise on drops by FoxFM in drive and afternoon to top the ratings, with FoxFM dropping by one point in each category.

But it was better news for FoxFM in younger skewing demographics, taking out the ages 10-17 and age 18-24 categories.

However, in age 18-24s it will be looking over its shoulder at Triple J which got a massive 8.5 point boost over the survey period to post a 17.5 share against Fox's 21.1.

The massive spike in Triple J number appears to be at least partially at Triple M's expense, with the station suffering a 5.1 point loss in the category.

But it did manage to overtake Gold in the age 40-54 category, with it switching places with Gold during the survey period, now enjoying a 12.5 point share.

SCA's FoxFM remained the top FM station in terms of audience share, despite slipping 0.9 percentage points to 7.6% audience. However, nipping at its heels is stablemate Triple M which gained 0.6 percentage points to 7.4% audience share and Nova100 which fell 0.5 percentage points to hit 7.3% audience share.

ARN's newly rebranded Melbourne Kiis station saw a 0.8 percentage point boost in total audience share to reach 7.1% audience share. New breakfast team , Matt and Jane, saw a similar jump, with a 0.9 percentage point increase to reach 6.8% audience share. The station's national drive show – Hughesy and Kate – increased by 0.6 percentage points with 7.9% audience share, to hit the middle of the pack.

Brisbane - Nova's lament, while 97.3FM celebrates

Nova106.9 has gone backwards in almost every category in Brisbane, but it did have success in its attempt to skew younger.

It was overtaken in drive, afternoon, and morning by 97.3FM, and by both ABC612 and Nova 106.9 in the breakfast slot.

It was also overtaken in total by 97.3FM, slipping by 2.8 points to an 11.2 share while 97.3FM gained 2.8 points to end up with a 15 share.

Nova106.9 lost a massive 9.1 points in people aged 18-24, losing the lead in the category to 4TripleJ.

However, it managed to keep its lead in the age 25-39 category with a 17.7 share, despite a 4.7 loss over the survey period. It also managed a gain in people aged 18-24, posting a 4.8 point increase to almost be level pegging with hit105.3.

ARN's 97.3FM maintained the rage in age 40-54s, posting a 4.7 point gain to end up with a 23.9 share.

Adelaide’s Mix 102.3 still ahead – but only just

ARN station Mix 102.3, which unlike its sister stations in Sydney and Melbourne has escaped the full KIIS re-brand, continues to lead the way in Adelaide in terms of market share, but only by a hair's breadth.

Mix is closely trailed by ABC 891 - the local AM broadcast of the ABC - which captures a 12.3% market share; an increase of 2.1%, while Nova's 91.9FM and the local Triple M broadcast, Adelaide Triple M which sits comfortably with a 11.3% and 10.9% share, respectively. Nova 91.9 leads drivetime with a 14%, an increase of 1.5% on the last period.

Perth's Mix 94.5 dominates total listeners

Third and fourth places belong to Nova's 93.7 and ABC 720 with audience shares of 11.4% and 10.4% respectively. ABC has grown its audience by the tiniest fraction - 0.7% - while Nova has fallen 1.4%.

ABC720 leads breakfast with 15.7% of the listening audience tuning in, up 2% on the last ratings period. Mix has grown its breakfast listeners by 0.6% to hit second place in the city with a 14.9% audience share. 96FM has made the largest gain with a 3% breakfast slot growth, but still sits at third place with a 11.6% share. Nova sits in fourth place, unmoved, with a 10.7% share.

Despite a 0.5% drop, Nova continues to lead in Perth's drivetime battle with a 15.1% share. Mix 94.5 is making a play for the lead spot having increased its share in the last six weeks by 1.5% to 14.7%.
