In one sentence, how would you describe what the company does?
We’re an independent digital marketing agency offering value-driven paid and organic search, and programmatic.
What do you do day-to-day?
I work with our team to plan and deliver search and programmatic strategies. I also share in hiring, new business, training and all of the other components of a small and fast growing business.
Define your job in one word:
Leadership.
I got into advertising/ad tech/marketing etc because:
I started out in a ‘writing’ job that turned out to be SEO, but loved the analytics side of it.
What’s the biggest challenge you face in your role?
The balance of running a business and staying on the tools / close to the numbers. We’ve been solving this by developing leaders and creating models for self-learning and self-assessment across the team - so everyone’s always progressing.
What’s the biggest industry-wide challenge you’d like to see tackled?
Transparency. Everyone’s talking about it, but nothing seems to change.
Previous industry related companies you have worked at:
I was previously digital marketing manager at Appliances Online, working with an incredible team and management.
Who is/has been a great mentor to you and why?
John Winning (CEO of Winning Group and Founder of Appliances Online). The Appliances Online business has set an incredible standard in ecommerce and he has a unique, passionate way of working. We took a lot of inspiration from the business when we started our own.
Words of advice for someone wanting a job like yours?
Assume the role that you want.
If I wasn't doing this for a living, I'd be:
I’d hope to be writing.
My mantra / philosophy is:
Assume nothing, test everything.
My favourite advert is (and why):
Apple - 1984. I love the concept and I’m a huge George Orwell fan.
Music and TV streaming habits. What do you subscribe to? (Spotify/Netflix etc)
Netflix and Google Play Music.
Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?
I’m writing a psychological thriller novel in my spare time.
In five years' time I'll be:
Running a more complex, AI-powered Sparro, and developing the next digital marketing leaders.
