Dettol has retained the title as Australia's most trusted brand in the annual Reader's Digest list of trusted brands.

The Reckitt Benckiser owned brand is a long time leader in the list, taking the top place, with all brands in the top five appearing in the list last year.

Dulux moved up two places from its 2014 ranking to be the second most trusted brand, while Colgate moved down to third this year.

Band-Aid, which was fifth last year moved up to the fourth sport while Dyson, which claimed third most trusted brand last year moved down to fifth.

Entering the top 10 this year include Lipton, Twinings and Sony, while once again the most iconic brand was found to be Hills/Hills Hoist.

The survey also splits out the trusted brands in more than 40 categories including banks, barbecues, beer, breakfast and cars.

ING Direct was found to be the most trusted Australian Bank, while Weber topped the barbecue category.

Once again Toyota was named the most trusted car brand, James Boags the most trusted beer and Sanitarium Weet-Bix the most trusted breakfast food.

Australian Reader’s Digest editor-in-chief, Sue Carney, said: “Many purchases are made with the heart and, even in this digital age, it's the brand which continue to offer quality and substance that hold our trust.

“But it also has to be acknowledge that the process of winning our trust has shifted dramatically, with many people preferring the testimonials of their fellow-consumers on social media.

The report, which was research by Catalyst Marketing and Research and commissioned by The Readers Digest, has been released annually for the past 14 years and surveys more than 2400 Australians to identify the products that hold their trust.

Earlier this year, the Australian Top 100 report by Brand Finance named Woolworths as the most valuable brand in the country, with Telstra trailing behind it as number two.
