The national awards celebrate dads who ‘get on the tools’ for their families.
Australia’s leading voice for dads, The Father Hood, has launched a new campaign, The Dad Awards, in partnership with Mitre 10.
In the lead up to Father’s Day, the national Dad Awards celebrate dads who ‘get on the tools’ for their families, acknowledging and celebrating the ever-growing tribe of hands-on dads in Australia
This is announced as a new Global Dad Study reveals that 85% of dads living with their kids through COVID-19 lockdown experience a positive impact on their bond with their kids.
According to the 2020 Global Dad Survey, fatherhood has rapidly evolved in the COVID-19 lockdown period, with 85% of dads reporting a positive impact on their bond with their kids, and just 3% of dads say they want their life to return to the way it was before the pandemic hit.
Seven out of ten dads have stepped up to be more involved in caring and parenting duties.
“Lockdown completely changed the way I approach being a parent,” says Adam, dad of two in his survey response.
“Being present with my kids is the #1 priority now and, to be honest, that will never change going forward as I have seen the benefits of being present everyday with the interactions my kids have with me.”
To recognise this fundamental and permanent shift comes The Dad Awards.
With a rallying cry of ‘Get on the tools’, The Dad Awards asks the community to nominate any fathers who are handy on the tools needed for modern fatherhood.
“The Dad Awards isn’t about singling out a dad and saying he’s the best dad in the country, it’s about giving a pat on the back to all the dads out there getting on the tools as a hands-on parent – and those tools have changed in recent times to be items like a spatula and a hairbrush, as well as the ones he needs for DIY projects," The Father Hood's Andrew McUtchen says.
"The Dad Awards is a much-needed platform to celebrate the legendary dad in your life!”
THE DAD AWARDS UNVEILED:
· Is your dad handy with a hairbrush? Tag him at #hairbydad
· Is he slick with a spatula? It’s clearly #dinnerbydad
· King of the cubby-build? #diybydad
· Does the dad in your life have a dapper touch when it comes to dressing the kids? Let the world know via #dressedbydad
By including one of the above hashtags on posts in Facebook or Instagram, nominees will go in the draw to win one of four $500 Mitre 10 vouchers.
“Mitre 10 and dads have been in it together through lockdown,” Mitre 10 general manager of marketing Karen Fahey says.
“And we couldn’t be more supportive of this new Father’s Day campaign by The Father Hood that puts a positive spotlight on the great work dads do on all the tools, not just the ones we stock.”
Winners will be drawn at random. The campaign opens for entries on Monday August 17 and closes on Friday September 4.
