The Rugby League World Cup is kicking off its global event with a new campaign from Clemenger BBDO Sydney looking at the tournament's 'nobodies'.
The Rugby League World Cup has launched a campaign promoting the global sporting event.
Created by Clemenger BBDO Sydney, the 'Nobodies' campaign pays homage to the lesser-known players of the Rugby League World Cup.
From emerging stars to the previously ignored, it highlights those who have the potential to re-shape the tournament.
The 60-second spot features up-and-comers including Kaysa Pritchard (Samoa), Casey Clark (USA) as well as well-known NRL stars Johnathan Thurston (Aus) and Sam Burgess (England).
Clemenger BBDO Sydney creative director Ben Clare says every world class athlete was at one point in their lives a “nobody”.
“The 'Nobodies' campaign champions these players who, despite their unrecognisability, have the potential to surprise and upset the historically dominant countries,” Clare says.
The 15th Rugby League World Cup will be hosted by Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea from 27 October to 2 December. Australia has won the tournament 10 times.
RLWC2017 GM of commercial and marketing Rohan Sawyer says: “With recent changes in the eligibility rules, the world's best players are coming.”
“The teams you wouldn’t traditionally expect to be a threat could surprise you.”
The campaign kicked off over this past weekend.
