We all know the line, but now Mini has paid a cheeky homage to the ad that put Australia on the map, using the tagline 'Throw another door on the Mini'.
The ad, developed by Ogilvy Melbourne, is for the all-new Mini 5-door hatch and borrows the tagline from Paul Hogan and the Australian Tourism Commission's 1984 ad asking tourists to "Throw another shrimp on the barbie". For its out of home campaign, the ad displays the new vehicle in a sealed and labelled meat tray.
Ogilvy Melbourne executive creative director Brendon Guthrie said: " “Given the all-new 5-door Mini Hatch officially launched on Australia Day, it was only fitting to celebrate in true Mini fashion. Wrapping the car like a tray of snags communicated the 5-door hatch message in a way that was both distinctly Australian and true to the Mini brand."
Mini's ad is running on TV, cinema and digital until March.
