Hendrick’s Gin has partnered with Lavender to grow Australia’s most unusual cucumber for a tipple like no other.

Hendrick’s Gin is paying tribute to the champion of its drink – the humble cucumber – with a summer campaign to rediscover its connection with the vegetable.

Over a 10-week period, at a greenhouse at the University of Sydney, expert cucumberists (a real title, apparently) will grow various cucumbers infused with odd ingredients.

In the spot the voiceover says: "With your discerning mind guiding our decisions together we'll create something extraordinary that rewards us with a tipple like no other. A taste of Australian summer and a testimant to the topsy-turvy."

Fans of Hedrick’s Gin will help the growers choose various ingredients used to fertilise the cucumbers by voting on the brand’s Facebook page, from kangaroo poo to yabby shells.

Lavender executive creative director Marco Eychenne says: “We wanted to create a cucumber variety that was truly of Australia. We’re hoping it will pick up some unusual characteristics, adding a twist to the classic Hendrick’s, tonic and cucumber mix. The goal is for drinkers to be able to enjoy a Hendrick’s and tonic, accompanied by a slice of the cucumber they helped create.”
