People can donate one minute of their time to give someone a lifetime.
Australian David 'Dlifer' Miller goes from delinquent to Australia’s Greatest Eshay with one selfless act: he was a registered as an organ and tissue donor and told his family he wanted to be a donor at the end of his life.
Around 9 in 10 families agree to donation when they are registered on the AODR. If Dlifer can do it, anyone can.
Yet, registration rates continue to remain low among young people. Only 10% of people aged 16 to 25 years are registered organ donors, which is three times lower than the registration rate (36%) for eligible Australians.
The registration figure for young men is even lower. Only 6% of men aged 16 to 25 years are registered as organ and tissue donors, compared to 14% of women in the same age group.
As Australia’s Greatest Eshay shows us, it has never been easier to register the decision to become an organ and tissue donor.
