Ultra Tune is no stranger to controversy and the Australian auto company has come under fire once again for featuring famous boxer and convicted rapist Mike Tyson in its latest campaign.

The ad, which has been running frequently during the Australian Open, includes Tyson and three women donning sexy costumes.

Speaking out against the new ad push, 3AW presenter Neil Mitchell has told listeners that Tyson’s past should not be ignored.

“Mike Tyson did time for rape. I would never use him in any sort of advertising campaign,” Mitchell said on his radio show this morning.

“But has he done his time and been forgiven? I don’t know.”

The ad features Tyson coming to the rescue of the women who run off the road after encountering his pet tiger.

One listener described the ad as “unsavoury” and inappropriate to be aired during the Australian Open, which is watched by people of all ages, including children.

She is calling for Seven and Ultra Tune to stop airing the ads and has submitted an official complaint to the Advertising Standards Bureau (ASB).

The ASB has received hundreds of complaints about Ultra Tune ads in the past for their demeaning portrayal of women.

The current ad will still have to undergo the official review process via the ad watchdog.

“Given Mike Tyson has a history of not respecting women I think it’s been aired in poor taste,” the listener said.

“Having something like that on my TV gets my goat up.”

AdNews has contacted the ASB.
