In this series, AdNews spotlights young talent in the Australian media, marketing and advertising sector. This time it's Paramount ANZ account manager - ad sales, Tyrese Samson.
Time in current role/time at the company:
I’ve been with Paramount ANZ for almost four years, as sales assistant for two years and then account manager for two years.
How long have you been in the industry?
Almost four years.
How did you get here? Was this always the plan?
When I was in high school, I really wanted to work in PR and marketing at some sort of fashion/beauty company. I studied a comms degree at uni and majored in PR and advertising, which is where I developed a curiosity for media. I saw the job ad for a sales assistant role for Network 10 and decided to give it a go and see where it took me. Here I am almost four years later and still loving it!
Who is your right-hand person/who guides you day to day?
Jaclyn Boller has been my beacon of guidance since being on my current portfolio. Her dedication to fostering a positive work environment encourages growth and collaboration among our team. Her belief in my abilities has empowered me to strive for excellence and continuously learn. I am grateful for her leadership and the profound impact she’s made on both my career and personal development.
What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?
The relationships/friendships I have developed in my time at Paramount has been a highlight. I love how media offers a range of roles and specialties, where you can find a niche that aligns with your skills and interests.
And the biggest challenge?
The media landscape evolves rapidly with new platforms and technologies emerging constantly. Staying current and effectively utilising these tools can often be a challenge.
Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?
Kristian Waller… watch out! But if I really wanted to aim for the stars, I’d say Beverly McGarvey haha.
Where do you turn for inspiration?
Following successful individuals or companies in this field helps me a lot. Learning from their strategies, achievements, and how they navigate challenges really motivates me.
Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?
I’m getting married in November, and my future last name will be 'Yap' which is quite fitting… I’m the biggest yapper at work, so everyone in my team probably already knows this, but I love reading! Recently I’ve been loving true crime and thrillers.
In five years time, I'll be:
Hopefully well-travelled, have started a family with my husband, and be a group sales manager.
