In this series, AdNews spotlights young talent in the Australian media, marketing and advertising sector. This time it's Yakkazoo account coordinator Saqib Ali.
Time in current role/time at the company:
Account Coordinator for just over a year now!
How long have you been in the industry?
About one and a half years.
How did you get here? Was this always the plan?
It’s been an interesting journey so far. From the time I was a teenager, I knew I wanted to do something in the communications field. That led me to doing a Bachelor of Communications with a major in journalism. My first gig was communication officer for NFP organisation, Kindred Spirits. Then an incredible opportunity came up at Yakkazoo and I jumped at it.
Who is your right-hand person/who guides you day to day?
Pinpointing a single person is really tough because I'm inspired daily by my team. But, if I had to pick, I would say Steph Pratt, our client services director. The way Steph manages and leads is something I've always admired. Her passion for work and the care that she shows for the people around her is very inspiring.
What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?
The people - meeting clients from all walks of life and learning more about them is something that always brings me so much joy.
And the biggest challenge?
Because of my age, I'd say confidence. I work with a range people from different walks of life with incredible life experiences so it's easy to compare myself to them. But with each day it gets better!
Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?
Being a director sounds fantastic...better watch out Steph.
Where do you turn for inspiration?
I look at myself and the journey that has led me here. Coming from a small town in Pakistan, I've had to face some very difficult challenges in life to get where I am today, and I always look back on this journey for inspiration.
Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?
I’m actually an introvert.
In five years time, I'll be:
Making my mark on the world. Watch this space!
