In this series, AdNews spotlights young talent in the Australian media, marketing and advertising sector. This time it's Paramount ANZ account manager - ad sales Megan Simmonds.

Time in current role/time at the company:

I am account manager - ad sales and have worked at Paramount Australia for five years in the Melbourne office.

How long have you been in the industry?

I have been in the media industry for seven years. I began at NewsCorp, Leader Newspapers before joining Paramount Australia in 2019.

How did you get here? Was this always the plan?

I originally wanted to become a journalist, however, once I had graduated university, I knew that I would be happy to join the media industry in any role possible to get my start. Thankfully, I landed in media ad sales and have loved it ever since.

Who is your right-hand person/who guides you day to day?

My manager, Adam Quick, is a huge support. Quicky has been my #1 supporter, encouraging me to challenge myself professionally and pursue all opportunities. His knowledge and experience within the media industry is unparalleled, and he is truly a great mentor.

What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?

My favourite part of working at Paramount in Melbourne is all the agencies and clients I get to work with. It is great to meet new people every day and make new friendships as part of my job.

I also love the challenge of being in ad sales, no two days are the same and you are always working on something new and exciting.

And the biggest challenge?

The biggest challenge in media is the ever-changing landscape and shift to a total screen offering, including broadcast TV, BVOD and digital platforms. It is important to be adaptable and continue to improve on and learn the exciting new world of advertising opportunities for our clients.

Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?

A guest Quizmaster on HYBPA?

I would love to continue to progress into a leadership role at Paramount Australia.

Where do you turn for inspiration?

My parents are always happy to offer guidance and support, they are a great support network. My brother is always a great inspiration for my professional and personal life and happy to provide advice or simply offer support me when needed.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?

I had to wear an eye patch as a child due to a lazy eye.

In five years' time I'll be:

At Paramount Australia and have progressed further in my career.
