Josh Frumar: client executive at Merkle B2B
Time in current role/time at company:
I have been at Merkle B2B for just over one year and eight months.
How long have you been in the industry?
I jumped into the digital marketing space straight out of university so just over one and a half years officially.
How did you get here? Was this always the plan?
Unlike my friends at university, I was never really sure of what I wanted to do once I graduated. I completed a double degree of Science and Social Research and Policy (majoring in Marketing and Neuroscience) at UNSW. I always had an interest in science but came to a realisation that it wasn’t something I wanted to pursue while at university, so I turned my focus to other options.
I graduated right in the middle of the first COVID lockdown and finding a job was tough. I applied to a job post for Merkle and within 3 weeks I hit the ground running and never looked back! (Shout out to LinkedIn!).
Who is your right-hand who guides you day to day?
I want to give a formal shout out to my client manager Johann Suhood, who not only showed me the ropes of digital marketing in APAC but allowed me to experience a plethora of exciting opportunities last year. I would have definitely lost my sanity without him! Also, the entire B2B team who work so collaboratively means we all feel supported!
What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?
The landscape is always changing and evolving! I am able to experience and be a part of new and innovative opportunities. This means I am constantly learning and optimising the way in which I work. No two days are ever the same.
And the biggest challenge?
I think what the best thing is also the biggest challenge (kind of like a double-edged sword). While it is exciting how fast paced the industry is, the ever-evolving landscape means there is lots of aspects we need to learn and remain up to date. Saying that though I love learning something new.
Whose job have you see your sight on in the future?
Life is a game of poker, and I am keeping my cards tightly held. However, I would say watch this space as my ambition is the stars!
Where do you turn for inspiration?
This is going to sound like such a cliché BUT the people around me – family, friends, and colleagues. I am in a very lucky position to be surrounded by intelligent, charismatic, and inspiring people in all aspects of life who inspire me to drive and challenge myself every day.
Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you:
I am secretly a massive anime fan. I have watched almost all the most popular anime’s of all time (Naruto is my favourite) and am currently obsessed with Bofuri: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense. However, if anyone at work reads this, I will deny this.
In fives years’ time I’ll be:
Professionally, I want to be in a position of leadership. Personally, happy and content. In the words of Paris Hilton #Sliving.
