Izzy Dalton: Associate client manager at Wavemaker
Time in current role/time at the company: 2 years
How long have you been in the industry? 3 years
How did you get here? Was this always the plan?
I studied communication, media and marketing at university. After six months of studying full time, I landed a position with an out-of-home provider. I continued studying part time while working full time, which I’m very grateful for as it opened up my eyes to the world of media and gave me a head start on work experience. After 18 months, I decided I wanted to move agency side so I could gain knowledge across both online and offline channels.
Who is your right-hand person/who guides you day to day?
James Lever. He has been a great leader and mentor in my career, always helping me reach my goals professionally and personally.
What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?
Variety, especially within the Wavemaker Brisbane team. I have been given the opportunity to work across different client categories and am always exposed to new learnings. The industry is also heavily focused on career progression.
The biggest challenge?
Managing the daily workload. Our industry is so fast paced, which is one of the reasons why I love it, but sometimes I feel that I need a few more hours in the day!
Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?
I would love to be an agency Client Lead for a business that specialises in health and wellbeing – an area I am really passionate about. I am still figuring out who has this role, but ideally a Client Lead who has business and category knowledge in the health industry.
Where do you turn for inspiration?
Pinterest and books. 1,500 pins and counting that I turn to for motivation in all areas of my life.
My favourite advert is:
Might be biased as they are one of our clients, but I love Tourism Whitsundays advertising.
Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?
If I wasn’t working in media, I’d be a nutritionist or psychologist.
In five years’, time I'll be:
I will have expanded my knowledge and media skills so I can apply them to my mum’s charity, Toowoomba Women’s Collective, a support centre for women who may be experiencing homelessness or disadvantage. I hope to contribute to the positive impact this organisation is having on the community.
