In this series, AdNews spotlights young talent in the Australian media, marketing and advertising sector. This time it's Yakkazoo social media coordinator Feline Fenecia.

Time in current role/time at the company

I started my role as social media coordinator at Yakkazoo in July 2023, so that's eight months now.

How long have you been in the industry?

I've been in the digital marketing industry for two years and I’ve been absolutely loving it.

How did you get here? Was this always the plan?

I came across the position on LinkedIn and was drawn to it because it closely matched my passion for social media marketing, which I had been eager to pursue as a career. Joining Yakkazoo has exceeded my expectations as not only am I able to hone my skills and expertise in digital marketing, but I'm also part of a work environment that is incredibly vibrant and supportive.

Who is your right-hand person/who guides you day to day?

It would be my manager Dany Coutinho, head of digital strategy and operations. I admire him both as a manager and as a person. Not only is he very knowledgeable in the field, but he is also always happy to lend a helping hand. He leads by example, always pushing himself to acquire new skills, explore innovative approaches, and stay abreast of industry advancements. This inspires me to strive for excellence in everything I do, to continually seek opportunities for self-improvement, and to aspire to be the best version of myself.

What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?

The best thing about working in digital marketing would be the boundless opportunities for creativity and growth.

As someone who is passionate about creating content, particularly through photography and videography, working in digital marketing allows me to indulge in this passion on a daily basis. Crafting visually compelling content is not just a job requirement; it's an integral part of the digital marketing landscape, where captivating visuals can make all the difference in engaging audiences and driving results.

I really appreciate the constant learning opportunities, like diving into search engine optimisation (SEO), it keeps me excited for what's next in this dynamic field.

And the biggest challenge?

The biggest challenge lies in navigating the ever-changing dynamic landscape, requiring constant vigilance to stay ahead of trends and adapt to updates in policies and interfaces.

Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?

I have my sights set on the role of digital marketing manager, aiming to broaden my expertise beyond the social media facet. To achieve this, I am currently undergoing training in SEO, recognising its importance in the broader digital marketing landscape.

Where do you turn for inspiration?

I find inspiration by immersing myself in the different social media platforms during my free time... whether it's browsing Instagram on my way to work or casually scrolling through TikTok before bed. Whenever I come across trends aligned with my clients' brands, I take note of it and integrate them into our plans the next day. Inspiration can strike when you least expect it!

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?

I started getting into social media marketing at the age of 12, where I captured professional pictures of food and ran my own food blog and account. During food blogging events, I would always be the youngest one surrounded by university students or people who are already in the workforce! This is why I enjoy my job very much as I consider social media as a hobby that turned into a career.

In five years' time I'll be…

I'd like to be a marketing manager, overseeing all the marketing activities of the business while inspiring and guiding a motivated team.
