In this series, AdNews spotlights young talent in the Australian media, marketing and advertising sector. This time it's The Media Store digital executive Daniel Paoli.
Time at the company:
One and a half years.
How long have you been in the industry?
Almost three years.
How did you get here? Was this always the plan?
I graduated in 2020 with a Bachelor of Media and Communications (majoring in Public Relations), I wanted to get a job in the field, but wasn’t sure what job.
I took a break from Woolworths and got a customer service job at the Royal Children’s Hospital which was really fulfilling and opened my eyes to the health care industry.
From there, I stumbled upon my first media job on LinkedIn, I had no clue what agency life would be like, but I am so grateful to be where I am today!
Who is your right-hand person/who guides you day to day?
It would have to be my manager Elaina Opare, she is one of the digital managers at The Media Store. We’re both Geminis so we get along like a house on fire!
Elaina is full of knowledge and can always help me with any problem I may be dealing with. She comes to work with warmth and kindness. She has taught me so much about digital media and the way we plan for our clients.
I admire Elaina’s speediness in everything she does, as well as her great attention to detail. I was honored to take Elaina to her first ever AFL game last year, and I’m happy to say she’s a converted Collingwood fan!
What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?
All of the yummy lunches we get to go to with publishers and amazing events which showcase the latest and greatest ad tech we can leverage.
I am a bit of a foodie and am so grateful to be in the industry I’m in, as I’ve eaten at some of the best places in Melbourne.
And the biggest challenge?
The constantly changing way of media, social trends are so quick to come by and are just as fast to leave us for the next big thing.
At The Media Store, the team and I like to stay on top of all the trends and keeping up to date with all of the latest platform and technology that we can leverage for our clients.
Where do you turn for inspiration?
Pinterest is underrated in my opinion! I love my fashion, so Pinterest allows me to find the latest looks, as well as Instagram - a quick scroll to see my favourite brands gives me that spark of inspo.
My favourite advert is:
The iconic McCain’s – ‘The rains are ‘ere’. It’s one of the earliest ads I can remember being a kid! It embodies Australia and how our crazy weather can change!
Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?
That I played piano for seven years when I was growing up, I really need to search on marketplace for a spare keyboard to jam out on.
Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?
No surprise, but my wonderful manager Elaina Opare! I hope to soak up all of her knowledge and do amazing things in media.
In five years time, I'll be:
Well-travelled, still working in media. I’d love to work on some amazing clients with meaningful purposes.
