Beixian Li: senior marketing science analyst at Analytic Partners
Time in current role/time at company:
One year and nine months in my current role. I’ll be hitting the four-year milestone of my time with Analytic Partners (AP) this December!
How long have you been in the industry?
Since I joined Analytic Partners.
How did you get here? Was this always the plan?
To be honest, my journey to AP, and this industry, wasn’t part of a concrete plan.
After graduating from university, I found myself at a crossroads. On one hand, I had the option to move back to my home country, which offered familiarity and a sense of belonging. On the other hand, I felt a strong desire to challenge myself by staying in this foreign land.
I decided to give staying a try and see what opportunities lay ahead. Knowing my passion for data analytics, I began my job search, hoping to get a role that aligned with my interests. Fortunately, I received an offer from AP.
It has been a fulfilling experience. Being able to apply my skills to help clients analyse and measure how different elements of the marketing mix drive sales, assisting them to make the best possible decisions and contributing to their success is incredibly rewarding. I’m eager to continue growing in this field.
Who is your right-hand who guides you day to day?
I’m grateful to be surrounded by highly intelligent and supportive colleagues who collectively serve as my right-hand, guiding me day to day. I also would like to shout out to my manager Kauri Ballard, for being a communicative and respectful leader who values the contributions of every team member. She’s always there to provide guidance and support when needed.
What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?
It offers a unique opportunity to work with a diverse range of clients across various sectors, such as FMCG, retail, financial services, and energy industry etc. This diversity allows us to gain a deep understanding of different market dynamics and marketing strategies. It’s a continuous learning journey. This exposure also allows us to bring cross-industry knowledge and best practices to the table, fostering the exchange of ideas.
And the biggest challenge?
It would be the same as my previous answer. Working with clients across different industries can be a challenge. It requires adaptability, quick thinking, and the ability to learn on the fly. But for me, that is what makes the job exciting.
Whose job have you set your sight in the future?
As someone working in a woman-owned and led company, I greatly admire the inspiring women in leadership positions. But I think my focus for the future is on developing my skills and expertise. Rather than targeting a specific person’s job, I aim to continually learn, grow and make positive impacts at AP.
Where do you turn for inspiration?
When it comes to finding inspiration, I’ve always turned to travel as my ultimate source. Exploring new places, immersing myself in unfamiliar cultures and meeting people from different backgrounds and cultures broadens my perspective. It also motivates me to step out of my comfort zone and embrace new experiences, allows me to step away from the familiar and reflect on my own desires and passions.
Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you:
We’re a close crew, I share a lot about my life and experiences with them. I think they know me quite well. Maybe that I only started learning English when I was nearly 7.
In five years’ time I’ll be:
Still doing what I love and following my passion.
