Arya Mishra: account executive at Ptarmigan Media

Time in current role/time at the company:

I've had the privilege of working as an account executive at Ptarmigan Media for the past seven months now.

How long have you been in the industry?

I've immersed myself in the advertising and media industry for nearly two years now.

How did you get here? Was this always the plan?

No, my journey here wasn't initially planned. I graduated as an engineer in 2020, but when COVID-19 emerged, I decided to explore new horizons. I discovered the dynamic world of advertising and media, captivated by its creativity and vibrancy. I initiated my learning through online internships, and in 2021, I entered the industry in India as a marketing coordinator with Publicis Groupe, where I spent a year. With the borders reopening in January 2022, I ventured to Sydney for my master's degree. I secured my position in the Australian media landscape while still studying, commencing my adventure with Initiative. Just before donning my graduation cap, I eagerly joined Ptarmigan Media. It's been a remarkable journey!

Who is your right-hand person/who guides you day to day?

I am profoundly grateful to have crossed paths with numerous extraordinary individuals in adland, but my utmost appreciation goes to my current manager, Katelyn Hynes. She's an exceptional mentor, offering valuable insights and fresh perspectives. I've acquired a wealth of knowledge under her guidance, and I feel fortunate to have her as a guiding influence in my career.

What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?

What I find truly enchanting about this industry is its fusion of creativity and the potential for positive change. Advertising and media serve as a canvas to bring innovative ideas to life while wielding a potent influence for good. The unceasing encouragement for ongoing learning and development, coupled with a strong dedication to community engagement, sets this industry apart. Whether it's championing mental health awareness or supporting various causes, this industry is dedicated to making a meaningful difference. The genuine enthusiasm for collaboration with fellow businesses, including clients and media owners, fosters a culture of shared knowledge and collective growth, a unique quality I've yet to encounter elsewhere.

And the biggest challenge?

Undeniably, in this industry, it's a whirlwind – fast-paced, with constant multitasking. Balancing the demands of meeting deadlines with self-care is paramount. Your well-being is as crucial as achieving those targets.

Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?

Looking ahead, I'm eager to transition from my current implementation role to the strategic side of the business. I'm excited about the prospect of formulating and executing my own ideas to create a substantial impact.

Where do you turn for inspiration?

For inspiration, without a doubt, I turn to my family, both my loved ones at home and my colleagues at work. Each individual brings a unique perspective and experience, and I am in a perpetual state of learning from them in various ways. I'm fortunate to be surrounded by individuals who genuinely care about me and are always willing to share valuable advice and insights.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?

One intriguing fact that my current work family may not be aware of is that I'm a trained professional dancer.

In five years' time, I'll be:

Professionally, in five years, my aspiration is to achieve victory at the Cannes Young Lions competition. On a personal note, I'm focused on leading a healthy life, surrounded by my loved ones.
