Young Guns: Amy Vu at iProspect Sydney

By AdNews | 18 June 2024

In this series, AdNews spotlights young talent in the Australian media, marketing and advertising sector. This time it's iProspect Sydney SEO manager Amy Vu.

Time in current role/time at company:

One year and eight months as an SEO manager.

Over nine months at iProspect.

How long have you been in the industry?

Four years and eight months.

How did you get here? Was this always the plan?

While I had several years of experiences in restaurant/café management, and customer service has always been my true calling, my parents weren't exactly cheering for my career in hospitality. So, with a marketing degree in hand, I decided to give it a whirl and started with a digital marketing internship. SEO became my passion, and the agency buzz was simply contagious.

Who is your right-hand who guides you day to day?

When it comes to SEO strategy, Marie (my director) is my guiding light.  She's always my first call for any tricky SEO questions or client situation. Her schedule might be packed, but she always makes time to really dig into the issue with me.

Rinka, my executive, is my ultimate partner-in-crime for day-to-day tasks and even ventures outside of work.  She's not only the best teammate a person could ask for, but also an amazing friend that I’m lucky to have.

What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?

The media industry fosters a real sense of community, which is what I love most.  Being surrounded by such talented individuals is a privilege. Everyone is down-to-earth and willing to lend a hand. There's always an opportunity to learn and grow, thanks to the collaborative spirit. I wouldn't be here today without the support of my amazing colleagues, particularly the industry seniors whose guidance has been instrumental in my professional development.

And the biggest challenge?

The SEO landscape is constantly evolving, with Google algorithm updates and industry trends emerging all the time. Keeping up with this rapid pace is a challenge but mastering the art of saying "no" is the biggest challenge. It's all about striking a balance between a heavy workload and consistently delivering high-quality work.

Whose job have you set your sight on in the future?

Not sure where my career will take me, but I always love working with people and in a general management role.

Where do you turn for inspiration?

People’s real stories are my biggest inspiration because they create the authenticity and enable me to believe that if others can do it, I can definitely do it. It could be from my friends, people around me, or from podcasts, books of successful people.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you:

Even though I love spending time going out and socialising, I do enjoy some downtime cooking and trying healthy baking recipes.

In five years time, I’ll be:

Five years from now, I see myself actively contributing to building a greener future. Raising awareness about environmental issues and getting involved in creating positive change will be a core part of my mission. The state of our planet is a major concern, and I'm determined to be part of the solution.
