Alessandro Vari, client director at dentsu X
Time in current role/time at the company:
Promoted to director earlier this year, have been with DX since 2021.
How long have you been in the industry?
Almost six years, in various media roles at dentsu.
How did you get here? Was this always the plan?
Like many of us, I fell into agency life without really knowing what it was about. I had my heart set on sports journalism for many years but I’ve always been intrigued by the idea of deciphering how we as consumers think and what we desire.
Who is your right-hand person/who guides you day to day?
dentsu are blessed with incredible talent. I frequently seek the advice of the likes of Kristina Endrikhovskaia and James Lobb, and then across the floor I can always rely on the likes of Matt Evans, Frank Carlino and Lauren Small.
What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?
It sounds selfish, but I still get a kick out of someone telling me they’ve seen a campaign of ours. We may not be, as we often tell ourselves, saving lives, but it is amazing to work in a space that impacts so many touchpoints of people’s lives.
And the biggest challenge?
Striking a balance between reach and attention. In my view, too many of us are sticking stubbornly to either side of the fence.
Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?
GM, CEO, a future decision-maker.
Where do you turn for inspiration?
Tight-knit group of schoolmates who keep me grounded, every time we catch up it’s like we’re 17 again.
Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?
Geography nerd.
In five years' time I'll be:
Returning from working overseas with my wife, hopefully some kids and a couple of dogs!
