Our Young Gun profile takes a look at some of the young talent across the advertising, adtech, marketing and media sector in Australia. It aims to shed light on the varying roles, people and companies across the buzzing industry.
Today we speak to My Muscle Chef junior graphic designer Celina Tran.
Time in current role:
Just over a year.
How long have you been in the industry?
Also, just over a year.
How did you get here? Was this always the plan?
Growing up, I was always keeping busy with creative crafts, painting cardboard boxes for my DIY dollhouse, making birthday cards filled with pom-poms and heart filled One Direction fan art, always gravitating towards design.
Whilst studying for my degree, I knew I wanted to work with a company that aligns with my interests, and MYMC was a perfect combination of the two things that I love, food and fitness.
Who guides you day to day?
I’m very fortunate to work with such an intelligent, creative, and lively team everyday. It’s inspiring to see everyone in their element, working together like an Ocean’s Eleven team, where we all have our unique talents and specialities to support each other through our pipeline of projects.
What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?
Besides eating our delicious and nutritionally balanced meals, I love always having something new to work on for different platforms, whether that be printed packaging, online ads, point of sale or website content.
And the biggest challenge?
Trying to hold out till 12pm to eat at a socially acceptable lunch time.
Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?
As scary but exciting as it sounds, I have no clue. In such a fast paced industry that’s always evolving and changing I like to keep myself open to new paths and possibilities that could arise.
However, I do envision myself in a role that would allow me to keep learning, meet new people, broaden my knowledge and develop my skills.
Where do you turn for inspiration?
Other than your stock standard Pinterest and Behance, taking a break from my screen and going for an outdoor walk usually does the trick.
I also enjoy having a quick stroll around the office to take a sneak peek at what the rest of the design team is working on.
My favourite advert is:
‘My First Time’ awareness campaign by Chatime. It’s strategically cheeky, humours and certainly an advert that really sticks within my mind.
With their very smart word play, Chatime’s campaign inclusively displays individuals of all ages to successfully appeal to a more broader audience. It’s an ad that leaves viewers to really think twice about the witty messaging.
Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?
In year 12, I played a very vital role in my high school production of Aladdin…the Magic Carpet *cue fireworks*.
In five years' time I'll be:
Buying the dream house for my mum.
