Jordaine Wilson.

Our Young Gun profile takes a look at some of the young talent across the advertising, adtech, marketing and media sector in Australia. It aims to shed light on the varying roles, people and companies across the buzzing industry.

Jordaine Wilson, Sales Executive - Sydney, 10 ViacomCBS

Time in current role/time at the company

Two and half years.

How long have you been in the industry?

About five years in Australia and New Zealand.

How did you get here? Was this always the plan?

I have always been a media enthusiast and had such a passion for the field, so I always envisioned myself working in the industry – specifically in Journalism (I have a lot to say ).

During my Communications degree, I interned at MediaWorks back in New Zealand and through that role I was exposed to multiple sides of the business; that’s where I got a taste for TV sales. Shortly after, I was eager to explore the overseas market and was lucky enough to land a role at 10 ViacomCBS - the rest is history!

Who is your right hand person/who guides you day to day?

The infamous Travis Kirk: full time GSM, full time superstar. His passion, drive and dedication day to day is admirable. I’d also be lost without my 10 ViacomCBS ‘ride or die’ – Dan Walsh. That man is going places!

What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?

The people. I’m so lucky to work in a such a creative space with so many bright, vibrant, and talented individuals - I’m inspired by the team every day.

And the biggest challenge?

Working from home for such a large portion of my career at 10 ViacomCBS. Unfortunately, you do tend to lose that social aspect of the job, but on the other hand you are pushed to think more innovatively around ways to reconnect.

Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?

I’d have to say a television group sales manager role is the next step for me.

Where do you turn for inspiration?

My colleagues, my friends, the odd podcast here and there, and anyone who I deem to be a successful and inspiring leader.

My favourite advert is (and why):

Throwing it back to my kiwi roots; ‘Trumpet’s – Simplifying Summer’ ad was, and still is, so iconic. “Undies, Undies, Togs” will be forever engrained in my head. Something so simple, yet so memorable.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?

I’m a low key neuroscience nerd. If you have a weird dream and want to over-analyse it, I’m your girl.

In five years' time I'll be: I would be lying if I said I didn’t have a five year plan drafted in my notes app on my phone, but essentially I’d love to be sitting in a leadership role - smashing goals both from a career and personal perspective. All while being content/happy – can’t forget that!
