4 July 2019

Our Young Gun profile takes a look at some of the young talent across the advertising, ad tech, marketing and media sector in Australia. It aims to shed light on the varying roles, people and companies across the buzzing industry.

Today we speak to CHE Proximity creative director Sam Dickson.

Time in current role/time at the company:
Three years.

How long have you been in the industry?
Eight years.

How did you get here? Was this always the plan?
Since the beginning my writer and I have always said “Let’s just see how far this goes…”
Which means we never really look too far ahead, we always just try to do a good job of the thing that’s right in front of us. And if we get through that unscathed, it’s on to the next thing, forever…until we die…or get bored.

Who is your right hand person/who guides you day to day?
My creative partner and fellow CD the iconic Miss Cameron Bell.

What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?
That fact that the rules are being re-written on daily basis means we can do more creatively than ever before. It’s scary, but it’s fun.

And the biggest challenge?
Trust.

Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?
Dunno.

Where do you turn for inspiration?
Anything but ads.

My favourite advert is:
Canal+ ‘The Bear’… it’s the first ad that made me laugh out loud and it still gets me.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?
That there’s nothing they don’t know.

In five years' time I'll be:
Doing the next thing.
