Anya Lee.

Our Young Gun profile takes a look at some of the young talent across the advertising, adtech, marketing and media sector in Australia. It aims to shed light on the varying roles, people and companies across the buzzing industry.

Today we speak to Anya Lee, Performance Manager at Havas Media

Time in current role: 4 months

How long have you been in the industry? 5 years

How did you get here? Was this always the plan?

From a political science degree, definitely not! Despite my dreams of becoming the next big politician rallying on TV, my time as a Marketing Intern to promote a Quiz App showed me how fun Paid Social could be. From there, I started my first job as a Performance Exec working on a travel client. I’ve had other roles across digital since then, but I’ve returned to Performance, my bread and butter.

Who is your right-hand person?

Not one person specifically, but all of the legends in client servicing that I’ve worked with have been fantastic.. approachable.. knowledgeable.. resilient.. supportive.. can you tell how much I love my AMs?

What is the best thing about the industry you work in?

I’m big into cross-team and cross-department synergy and having a great team of experts from different disciplines all coming together as one is the chef’s kiss and is my favourite part of the job.

And the biggest challenge?

Not enough hours in the day to have a chat with everyone and still get through all the flagged emails.

Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?

One day I would love to be heading up search and social for a mid-range beauty brand, combining my knowledge in performance and retail with my interest in makeup/skincare.

Where do you turn for inspiration?

I like talking to other people, and that’s where I find the most inspiration. Whether it’s in line waiting for the microwave, asking the team a question, during a client call, or over drinks, there’s always something new to learn through a conversation.

My favourite advert is:

A random IG story ad of a handbag on Kickstarter. It was perfectly targeted towards my interests and intent to purchase: showcasing all the features with a gorgeous video on my most-used channel, tapping into my interest in sustainability, and popping up in the middle of my search for a new work bag. It was out of budget, but I was so impressed that I put myself right on the 6-month preorder waitlist.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?

All of my coffees are decaf!

In five years’ time I will be:

Relaxing on the beach decked out in things I’ve bought off cleverly targeted IG story ads, if IG is still a thing?!
