Women in Media Australia has appointed Kym Middleton inaugural general manager, starting January.

Middleton, an events curator/producer and journalist, will lead the national not-for-profit registered charity in its mission to foster gender equality and support women across the media landscape.

"As move to represent more women in all facets of media, creating opportunities that empower them to network, enhance their skills, and attain career progression and well-deserved recognition," Middleton said.

Middleton, reporting to co-chairs Anita Jacoby and Victoria Laurie, will play a pivotal role in advancing Women in Media's mission to break down barriers and create a more inclusive and supportive environment.

"With more than 6,400 members and growing, we’re delighted to welcome her onboard and look forward to a stellar year in 2024 and beyond," said Jacoby.

The Women in Media Industry Insight Report 2023 shows barriers persist for women working in media, with the majority of women (54%) continue to be either unsure or explicitly dissatisfied with the progress of their careers.

The report informs the call for gender equality, pathways for career progress, and access to support and resources for women working in all roles and types of media.
