Angela Hampton, the founder of independent agency WiredCo, gave an emotional speech when accepting the award for Employer of the Year (headcount under 75) at the AdNews Agency of the Year event.

Hampton noted that it has not been easy running a business in the last couple of years, with economic uncertainty and shrinking budgets, agency land specifically has been pretty tough.

She and her business partners founded the agency to create a space that genuinely cared for its people, a space that encourages vulnerability, to leave egos at the door, to have as many belly laughs as much as possible every day and to show that a person's true colours are the special source to connection.

"So naturally, to win this award means so much to us," Hampton said.

"Thank you to my business partners David and Mickey, I couldn't imagine doing this business ownership with anyone else.

"To our wonderful, creative and mischievous Wiredos our business wouldn't exist without you and your hard work, passion and wired-ness never goes unnoticed.

"To our client partners for being an absolute bunch of legends and treating us as an extension to your team and your business.

"To our media partners, publishers and tech partners you supercharge our business, and we are forever grateful for your support - we also love the big lunches, so please keep it up.

"To the judges thank you, you've made a decision.

"And finally to AdNews and to all of you here today, what a fucking great industry we work in, so thank you very much."
