How much do influencers, some of whom are reported to earn big money, really get paid?
The answer may be found in a survey on social trends by social media management platform Hootsuite.
The study found social marketeers are experiencing a defining moment in history, that sees the power of promoting brands in the hands of content creators and social media influencers.
According to the survey, 28% of brands that work with influencers go through third-party platforms such as social media forums. For small business owners, this means less overhead as well as control over who is hired.
And what do they cost? 19% of influncers are paid $100- $499 per sponsored post, while 10% receive $100 or less for promoting brand products.
Some don't get cash. 29% reported that they’ve received payment in the form of free products.
And 15% of reported to work for free.
Only 2% make $10,000- $24,999 USD per post.
And just 1% earn $25,000 USD or more for a sponsored brand post.
Head of Influencer marketing at Student Beans, Ruby Soave says: "Our main challenge is the volatility of pricing, especially on TikTok,” says Ruby Soave, Head of Influencer Marketing at Student Beans.
“There’s such a lack of standardisation over how much work should cost that negotiating good prices gets complicated—we treat influencers as a media buy within a media plan, and we price accordingly,” says Soave. “Student Beans also has proprietary pricing benchmarks, based on the media value of a creator: which helps us - and our clients - overcome the inconsistency of creator/agency fees across TikTok.”
