Westpac has hired Telstra's general manager CMO transformation, Toby Dewar, as its new head of media.
He will lead Westpac's media strategy, as well as manage its buying and agency relationships.
Dewar, who describes himself as a passionate marketer with more than 20 years experience, currently leads Telstra's implementation of a marketing program which involves the training of 380 marketers to shape and influence how the CMO leads the business.
Ahead of his current role, Dewar was GM media, sponsorships and awards at Telstra, which involved managing the sponsorship portfolio, including marquee properties in NRL, AFL, Olympics, netball and ballet.
Before that he was media and sponsorship manager ANZ at McDonald's for nearly six years, after leaving Ikon in 2006, where he was a client service director.
Last week saw several brands shake up their marketing departments, with Myer marketing boss, Tara Lordsmith, exiting after less than a year. Unilever also revealed it was restructuring to combine marketing VP roles into a CMO role, and Airbnb is ramping up its marketing efforts as it seeks a top marketer for Australia.
