German automobile manufacturer Volkswagen has extended its global creative agency contract with DDB for three years, including Australia, AdNews can confirm.

The Omnicom creative agency has held the account for six decades.

DDB’s contract with VW ended in 2023, but the agency was given two six-month extensions prior to the announcement.

As part of the new contract, Omnicom strategically combined forces from its many international agencies to form a “united global group” representing the best of its global talent. This group, with a Berlin-based leadership team, will integrate with the VW media team at PHD for total account coverage.

Omnicom also plans to expand its offerings with VW to include precision marketing as part of an overhaul of the company’s customer experience and production processes.

February saw Volkswagen release its first brand campaign in seven years 'Let's go for a drive'. The creative concept is centred around the simple life of a lighthouse keeper working and living on an island.

More recently, Volkswagen Australia, DDB Group, University of Melbourne and WIRES designed the RooBadge for a campaign to help reduce car collisions with kangaroos.

Omnicom media agency PHD was re-appointed to the brand's global media account, after a lengthy pitch, in June.

DDB and Volkswagen had no comment.
