Ex-general manager for clubs and the NRL Jonnie Stewart has been appointed managing director at Venetian Media Group (VMG)’s sports management and advisory firm Aspire Sports Management.
Ex-CEO of the Brisbane Broncos Paul White also joins as an investor and shareholder. Stewart brings a decade of commercial sports experience holding executive and general manager positions at both club and league level.
Stewart began his sports administration career with the Bronco’s under White’s leadership in an era of huge success.
White has been a mentor for Stewart, even during his own challenge with brain cancer.
White encouraged Stewart to take the top position - over the past three years he’s done consulting work with the Australian family-run business VMG.
Stewart will work out of VMG’s Queensland head office.
White believes securing Stewart as managing director is a game changer.
“He’s a very respected executive and has a unique ability to develop superior relationships across the sporting, sponsorship, media and commercial areas, which is vital to attract talent and then maximise brand and personal potential,” White says.
Stewart said he feels privileged to be backed to lead the Aspire business.
"More Australians are playing and watching sport than ever. It's a growing and complex industry with endless opportunities for athletes and brands, Aspire is set up to drive commercial outcomes for both," Stewart said.
VMG CEO Michael Fishwick said VMG is not just adding two of the industry's most respected sports executives; the company is infusing the team with unparalleled expertise.
"Their passion for the industry and belief in doing things the right way—prioritising integrity in our dealings with athletes, brands, clubs, and leagues—mirror our own values," Fishwick said.
"We’re building something special in the marketing and media space, blending consultancy, marketing, advertising, media, and now, sports management into a singular, powerful ecosystem.
"Our unique approach to business, grounded in family values, has significantly contributed to attracting industry stalwarts like Jonnie and Paul. Their decision to join us reflects a shared belief in the transformative power of sports as Australia's gateway to business.”
