Victoria Bitter (VB) has responded to Hungry Jacks' ad, which saw the burger giant create its iconic 'hard earned thirst' campaign, with its own copycat spot.

Last week the fast-food chain dropped a new ad across its social media platforms with the tagline 'hard earned hunger needs a big juicy burger'. The ad also played to VB's signature tune.

Now, the alcohol brand is playing along, releasing its own ad which recreates Hungry Jacks' classic 'The burgers are better at Hungry Jack's' tagline.

In the 30-second ad, posted to VB's Facebook page on the weekend, the tagline is changed to 'The beers are better at Victoria Bitter'.

The work replaces a burger for a can of VB and even includes the logo up in flames.

The post includes the caption 'They say imitation is the very best form of flattery'.

The clip has already attracted 46,000 views since being published on Saturday.

VB told AdNews it was flattered by the ad recreation and decided to join the fun with its own.

“There aren't too many brands that go with the Australian summer better than Victoria Bitter,” VB said.

“If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then we tip our lids to Hungry Jack's for their tribute to our iconic TV ads.

“And we hope our drinkers enjoyed our tongue-in-cheek response as much as we enjoyed the effort of Hungry Jack's."

Hungry Jack's dropped its popular 'the burgers are better' slogan in 2011 after 16 years, replacing it with 'Hungry Jack's makes it better. However, the brand later reinstated the tagline, citing customer feedback asking for the old tagline to be returned.
