Former Unilever marketer David Rubin has joined social scrapbooking site Pinterest to lead the site's global brand marketing in the newly created role of head of brand, Adage reports.
Rubin who joined the company on July 14 has been tasked with expanding the site to encompass both men as well as women.
Pinterest has a strong and passionate following, particularly among women, Mr. Rubin told AdAge, "A large part of the expansion of that is a real focus in extending that to men and extending it globally," he said.
Previously Rubin was Unilever's VP-marketing worked on Unilever's hair brands, which include Dove, Suave and Tresemmé.
As Pinterest's head of brand, Mr. Rubin will focus on defining the brand's strategy and manage all of its marketing efforts globally.
As for whether Mr. Rubin plans to hire an agency, he told AdAge Pinterest will rely on its in-house marketing organisation for now but could eventually bring agencies into the fold as its marketing efforts ramp up.
While Pinterest doesn't have any dedicated operation in Australian, the current number of local users sits at approximately 380,000.
