The Underdogs are planning to win - AdNews Challenge

New entrants to AdNews Challenge this year are creative agency MJW and its all-girl team, The Underdogs. And these ladies want you to know, they’re nobody’s b*tches.

They’re probably named after their agency’s challenger brand tag-line, Champions of the Underdog. But they don’t care about that corporate guff, they’re busy playing to win.

Says kayaker, Lorien Pitsinos, “I’ve found myself up sh!t creek without a paddle on numerous occasions in my digital design career. So being on an altogether cleaner body of water – and with a paddle – should be a cinch.”

Runner, Ella McGuire, agrees. “People think a junior account role is nothing more than being a useless bag carrier. But if that bag’s heavy enough, carrying it is actually really useful training.”

Sophie Turner, a current world record holder, joins the team for the swim leg. “Admittedly my world record is in the apparently unrelated discipline of sports watching: I was part of the record crowd at this year’s NRL Grand Final. But hey, there’s only another 83,832 people who can lay claim to that.”

Anchoring the team for the obstacle leg is captain and agency receptionist Rachael Cole, who said: “Welcome to MJW, how can I help you?”

The Underdogs were formed in a shameless and transparent attempt to update the profile of one of Australia’s most established agencies. In fact, if you re-read the beginning of this story you’ll see they’ve blatantly rolled the agency positioning, the fact that it includes digital and social media services in its integrated offering, and the impressive results they achieved for a client (the NRL) into the opening few paragraphs. The sneaky b@stards.

They’d probably want to finish up this piece with a phone number, or at least a web address, to really ‘close the loop’ and ‘convert some hot prospects’. But we’re going to leave those details out. We figure that way more of the MJW crew will show up to the AdNews Challenge – Clifton Gardens Reserve, Sunday 16 November – even if only to hand out business cards.

Register here for this Sunday's event.
