Sales was the most sought-after media industry job function in 2024, according to Mercury Talent's annual Media Industry Hiring Report.
Analysis of the job market found that 37% of roles were advertising sales positions.
Junior staff, or those who are most affordable, are also in demand.
More than half of media industry jobs in 2024 were for entry-level and junior roles typically paying less than $100,000 or requiring up to three years experience.
The media job market was buoyant for the first six months of the year but the second half shrunk.
The year finished with a total of 3,678 sales, content, operations, marketing and senior management roles in Melbourne and Sydney.Sydney was the largest market with 76% of jobs.
And News Corp was the biggest media recruiter, posting 287 jobs in Melbourne and Sydney.
Nine posted the second most jobs followed by the ABC, TikTok, Are Media and Foxtel.
Among TV broadcasters, the ABC was the biggest recruiter while oOh! was first in outdoor media.
Momentum Media was the most active B2B media recruiter.
Publishers, with 1,743 jobs, recruited the most in 2024, followed by TV, radio, event organisers and OOH companies.
