The Media Federation of Australia (MFA) has moved its NGEN program online, bringing weekly opportunities for learning, developing and connecting to the industry’s young media professionals with less than five years’ experience.
Feedback was excellent from the first two virtual sessions, run by Rob Pyne (Realizer) and industry digital leaders Simon Gellibrand (Performics) and Owen Martin (Carat).
NGEN runs more than 65 workshops a year, designed to teach skills around leadership, communication, industry knowledge and personal performance.
All sessions – including workshops, masterclasses and networking opportunities – are now being delivered digitally through live streaming.
NGEN Connect, an opportunity to meet virtually for “coffee and convos”, will be launching in coming weeks.
“The benefit of migrating all our workshops and masterclasses online is that we are no longer constrained by location or venue capacity – NGENers from across the country can log in every week for great, national content," says Melanie Aslanidis, the MFA’s Head of NGEN.
"And the Live Q&A means participants will be engaging with their colleagues in other cities and states for the first time ever.
"The uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 crisis can be particularly harsh on the younger members of our industry, who are not as established in their careers, so it’s important that we continue to deliver the skills they need to take control of their career progression.”
The first sessions include: Connections: using connections to unlock creativity; Presenting in an online world; Resilience in the face of adversity.

There are more than 3,000 NGENers nationally across 70 companies, with 57% of members from media agencies and 43% from media owners.
