The Australian newspaper is celebrating 60 years in print.
Starting today, The Australian will publish a special editorial series, Six Decades in Six Weeks, highlighting the biggest news stories, cultural and lifestyle events, business and sporting achievements and the most memorable pictures and cartoons of the past 60 years, decade by decade.
On July 13, The Australian will publish a glossy 104-page 60th Anniversary Collector’s Edition magazine, featuring the most influential people of the past 60 years, including prime ministers, business magnates, sports champions, musicians, scientists and artists.
As well as editorial content across print, digital, video, social and podcast via The Front, there will also be a gala black-tie anniversary event on July 25 as well as a consumer marketing campaign across print, digital, social, radio, television and outdoor.
The Australian’s editor-in-chief, Michelle Gunn, said the audience of the publication is invested, engaged and determined to help build a better Australia.
"Our subscribers play a critical role in our commitment to serve the country into the future," she said.
On July 15, 1964, Rupert Murdoch published the first issue of The Australian. Today, it is read by 4.091 million Australians across print and digital, according to Roy Morgan data for the 12 months ending March 2024.
