Ten's Australian Survivor has outlasted and outperformed its 2018 season debut, drawing in 807,000 metro viewers overnight.

The show was up over 90,000 viewers compared to last season's Champions versus Contestants debut. Last night's episode was the highest-rated for the series and up 13% compared to last year.

The show continued to grow its audience year-on-year, up close to 200,000 from 2017's season two launch. Survivor also went over one million in total audience, including metro and regional audiences.

Survivor's success could also be due to Nine and Seven opting not to run any of its major primetime reality programs last night, with Australian Ninja Warrior not running on Wednesday's and Seven's House Rule wrapping up on Tuesday evening.

“Last night’s Australian Survivor launch was a fantastic start to what we believe is the best season yet," Ten chief content officer Beverley McGarvey says.

“A huge thanks and congratulations to the all the competitors, Jonathan and the brilliant team behind the scenes who have put together yet another amazing season. These contestants really are here to play and we can’t wait to share more of what’s to come.”

The only non-news program to come close to Survivor overnight was Anh's Brush with Fame on the ABC, which drew in 722,000 in the evening slot, with Nine running double episodes of Young Sheldon and Seven airing Britain's Got Talent in primetime.
Despite dominating the evening in primetime, Ten was unable to snag an overnight main channel win, coming in third behind Nine. Seven led the evening with 19.3%, while Nine narrowly pipped Ten to second with 16.8%, compared to its 16.6%.

Australian Survivor returns in primetime this evening, while Nine will air NRL Thursday Night Footy between Cronulla and North Queensland (NSW and QLD) and Seven is airing double episodes of Home and Away.
