Surfing bible Tracks magazine in crowdfunding capital raise

Tracks Magazine, the surfing bible for a generation, has launched a capital raise, led by 11-time world champion Kelly Slater.

And all three of the original founders of the 54-year-old magazine – Albe Falzon, David Elfick,, John Witzig – have expressed an interest to reinvest after selling in the late '70s.

The Birchal equity crowdfunding went live this week with more than 1,200 people expressing an interest. Investments start at $250 and the target is $2 million.

“Having Kelly Slater, Nat Young, Shaun Tomson, and Rabbit Bartholomew on board is a monumental endorsement of our vision," said Peter Strain, Tracks publisher.

"These individuals have shaped surfing history. Their involvement is a testament to Tracks’ legacy as well as a massive boost for our future endeavours. We’re set to make waves together."

Tracks is reinvigorating its brand to remain influential and relevant in a changing media landscape.

Albe Falzon said Tracks has always been about capturing the essence of surfing culture.

"It’s incredible to see it evolving yet staying true to its roots," Falzon said.

"We’re as passionate now as we were back in 1970, and this new direction is exactly what we need to stay relevant and exciting.”

Tracks plans several new ventures:

  • Tracks Wanderlust Bus: A reality TV show documenting surfers traveling Australia’s coast, capturing the essence of the surf lifestyle.
  • Tracks Shacks: An Airbnb-style platform offering curated accommodations for surfers, in partnership with Alloggio.
Tracks Production Studio: In collaboration with Perpetual Entertainment, creating a 24/7 surf, snow, skate, music, and lifestyle channel.
  • Exceptional Tracks: An immersive experience with Exceptional Alien, featuring personal tips and recommendations from surfers featured on the cover.
