The winners of the first SheSays Australia awards have been revealed.
There were three categories: The Industry Award to recognise a female creative for their ideas; the Student Award to recognise a young, talented female and the Woman of the Year Award.
The Melbourne arm of the global women's networking group launched the awards earlier this year to recognise the achievements and talents of women in the industry.
The Woman of the Year Award went to Renece Brewster, CEO and founder of personalised video marketing business Data Creative; CEO and co-founder of Visual Domain and marketing manager for Girls in Tech Melbourne, for her outstanding contribution to the creative industries.
The Industry Award was handed to Georgia Patch, junior planner, and Kiah Nicholas, junior copywriter at Host for their #redefinewomen campaign, a social movement created to encourage Google to modernise the sexist definition examples in its search engines.
The Student Award, which asked students from RMIT in Melbourne to respond to a brief for a campaign for SheSays, was won by Janice Ko and Carissa Putriziandra Finneren, RMIT, for Strike Through Unconfidence. The winners of the Student Award are offered an internship at Isobar Melbourne.
Kara Jenkins, director of SheSays Melbourne, says: “We are thrilled to recognise just some of the amazing women within the Australian industry through the inaugural SheSays Awards. The caliber of entries was extraordinary and the winners are all incredibly deserving of recognition.”
“Our hope is that by publicly recognising the contribution of these women, we will challenge all women to think about their current position in the industry and where they want to be in the future. By recognising these role models, hopefully we empower more women within the industry to set ambitious goals and have the confidence to achieve them.”
The awards were judged by a panel of male and female industry figures including Konrad Spilva, CEO of Isobar; Rosie Baker, editor, AdNews; Carmela Soares, creative director at Isobar; Prue Jones, creative director at Reactive; Jon Foye, Denny Handlin and Amy Hollier, creative directors at BWM Dentsu; Beth Walsh, creative director at Hardhat Digital; Tim Kotsiakos, creative director and founder at MASS; and Emma Hill, creative director at The Charles Grenfell Group.
