Seven West Media has appointed Chris Wharton as chief executive of its portfolio of Western Australian businesses, following the merger between West Australian Newspapers and Seven Media Group.
Prior to the merger, Wharton was chief executive of WAN. In his new role, he will oversee Western Australian businesses such as The West Australian and Channel Seven Perth.
He will answer directly to Seven West Media chief executive David Leckie.
Wharton has also worked previously as managing director of Channel Seven Perth.
Leckie said: "It goes without saying that Chris knows Perth and Western Australia and given our strengths in that market, Chris's appointment will further enhance the presence of our media businesses in this important city and state.
"Both Seven Perth and The West are great businesses and Chris's knowledge of both businesses adds further depth to our management team."
Seven West Media chairman Kerry Stokes said: "This appointment allows us to bring together two great Western Australian media businesses under a single leadership structure."
At the beginning of the year, it was revealed that WAN and Seven Media Group would become a single entity in a $4 billion merger deal that would see Stokes consolidating his vast media interests.
The company combines Seven, Pacific Magazines, and Yahoo!7, The West Australian Newspaper, as well as regional newspapers and radio stations in Western Australia.
