Seven's shake-up continues

David Porter just got a whole lot busier, being appointed as Seven's director of TV operations, but he will keep his old responsibilities as well.

Porter has been given the nod in the new role as Seven West continues its shake-up of its management, partially in response to falling advertising revenue.

Chief operating officer Nick Chan departed the company in December last year, while its chief financial officer Dave Boorman left earlier this month, with his resignation “reluctantly accepted” by the broadcaster.

The new appointment signals that Seven West is doubling down on TV as “the engine room of our business”, with the network spruiking Porter's role in getting Seven into the digital age, as well as setting up Seven's Martin Place newsroom.

Porter will report to Seven West CEO Tim Worner, and with the appointment of Clive Dickens from Southern Cross Austereo to chief digital officer and Peter Zavecz to CEO of Pacific Magazine, Seven West has signalled a renewed focus on content.

“At its heart, Seven West Media is not just a content company,” Worner said.

“It's a quality content company. We will be creating even more content over the coming decade. And we will continue to become event more efficient in how we create that content.”

Efficiency will have to be top of mind for Porter, who will keep the responsibilities of his old job in addition to taking up the new role.

Despite the focus on content, it is thought Porter's focus will be driving efficiencies and promoting engagement between Seven West's media businesses.

Porter joined the Seven Network in 2001.

In other Seven news, the network has launched its hybrid TV (HbbTV) coverage of the Australian Open, something which the company said at its upfront presentation last year would be a showcase of the technology and what it can do for its coverage of specific events.
