Seven has elected to discontinue its plans for a second season of MKR in 2019, with the deciding to focus on improving its 2020 offering.
The second effort for the tailend of 2019 was revealed at Seven's Allfronts in October last year, with the network stating that the shorter second series would be focused around its 10th anniversary.
Seven confirmed that the season would not go ahead, however, declined to comment further on the decision or what content will replace the slot.
AdNews had previously questioned Seven director of content scheduling Brook Hall over concerns of audience fatigue, with Hall shirking any suggestions that the show would cause "over-saturation".
MKR's grand final shed close to 600,000 overnight viewers compared to its 2018 finale, with the show struggling throughout the season, as Nine's Married at First Sight (MAFS) drew eyeballs away from the cooking show.
Seven director of network programming Angus Ross told AdNews last month that the success of MAFS "will certainly influence" the way the network looks at Q1 programming in 2020 as it aims to do better in the primetime slot.
Despite MAFS eclipsing MKR in the first quarter of 2019, with the show struggling to break out of six digit overnight viewing figures, Seven remains confident in the franchise.
"Even with the success of MAFS, MKR was still the second-best performing entertainment program in the primetime slot, and when you look at what Ten threw up against Nine, not much stuck there so we are happy with the performance," Ross previously stated.
