SBS was unable to continue its run of one million-plus metro viewers for Socceroos games, with last night's midnight defeat by Peru drawing 842,000 viewers, down from 1.5m previously.
Last night's 2-0 loss, which saw the Socceroos' World Cup dreams shattered, was the latest Australian team game to be broadcast since the tournment kicked off.
This significantly hindered the viewership, when compared to earlier matches which were both broadcast before midnight.
SBS was also unable to repeat the double-digit main channel share magic but still managed to take a 9.2% slice.
The broadcaster's free complete offering of the tournament is drawing to a close, with the Group Stage of the World Cup wrapping up on Friday.
Despite the confusion, Optus and SBS are yet to reveal which broadcaster will cover which games in the upcoming 'round of 16'. SBS has the rights to one game a day, however Optus has preference to choose which game they will broadcast.
Seven won the night, with a 19.3% main channel share, helped by its nightly news broadcast and 756,000 House Rules viewers.
Over on Ten, MasterChef came close to cracking a million, drawing an audience of 938,000 metro viewers, up from earlier this week and winning in the primetime slot, as the show's 'Sweet Week' continues.
