Cloud-based retail point-of-sale software provider Vend has appointed Sarah Macartney as its new director of marketing.

Macartney brings 15 years of global marketing experience to the role, including an eight year career with Seek most recently as head of corporate affairs.

During her time at Seek she established and ran several group functions including public and government relations as well as managing internal and external communications, and overseeing executive communications.

Operating across the portfolio of companies within the Seek Group her role also encompassed leading the corporate communications for mergers and acquisitions, and advising Seeks investment portfolio of early-stage investments in their marketing and communications.

Reporting directly to Vend’s founder Vaughan Fergusson, Macartney will lead Vend’s global brand and communications efforts as the company strengthens momentum in the USA, UK and Australia.

Fergusson says Macartney join the business at a "crucial" stage.

"It’s not only a crucial time for the business, but a crucial time for the industry, too, as retailers adapt to the new retail spring," Fergusson says.

"Sarah’s appointment enhances our ability to support these retailers so they can focus on doing the important things as they adapt to the post-COVID retail environment.”

Macartney will drive marketing efforts to support Vend’s push into the mid-market and key vertical markets, including fashion and apparel, sporting goods, and homewares.

She will also oversee Vend’s strategic partner program and work on co-marketing initiatives with key partners such as Afterpay, Xero, Tyro, Google and Apple, as well as partner resellers in North America.

“I am thrilled to be able to contribute to the growth story of Vend. Working alongside highly motivated and talented people with a market-leading proposition is a really exciting opportunity," Macartney says.

"The independent retail sector is such an important contributor to creating the bustling high streets we all love to shop in and I can’t wait to see Australia’s retailers adapt and thrive."
